Mario is the overall protagonist of the long-running and highly successful Nintendo video game franchise series with the same name. Shigeru Miyamoto created Mario, who was based off Popeye. Mario mainly fulfills the role of rescuing Princess Peach from Bowser, the ever-persistent King of the Koopas, in Super Mario games, while in Super Princess Peach, the role is reversed for Mario and Peach, Bowser kidnaps Mario and Peach rescues him.
